Welcome to Rosewind Dachshunds.  On our small farm in the beautiful Skagit Valley of Northwest Washington we have begun a careful breeding program of mini long-haired Dachshunds. I home school our children and so am able to be at home each day with our dogs and their puppies.  Our dogs are our pets and family members first of all and a source of daily joy.

We are dedicated to breeding according to breed standard and for the best of that wonderful dachshund disposition.  To this end we have begun showing and striving to meet the standard and use our breeding program to improve and help the breed.   We are putting that same dedication in the raising of our puppies to be well-socialized companions and pets.  We spend extensive time with the puppies giving the input needed to help them develop.

Our puppies begin their days in our bedroom and as they open their eyes and begin to move around we move them down into the kitchen in the middle of family life. They are held and loved and exposed to all of the noise and fun of a family.  Soon they are taken outside to explore the great outdoors and of course smell the roses!

Our puppies and adults are naturally reared without the use of vaccines or kibble.  They are fed a species appropriate diet of  raw meaty bones (RMB) and a mix of meat and organs.  We began to feed raw 3 yrs ago after trying a variety of high quality kibbles.  I was just not satisfied with my dogs coats, ears and general health.  I had heard of raw feeding for years and finally decided to make the switch.  I can't believe the difference.  They all have shiny coats, no itchy ears, healthy teeth and unbounded energy.  Not to mention the fact that they just smell better.  Since raw feeding out bitches lose little hair after whelping and recover quickly.  Our puppies first food is ground meat, raw eggs and a bit of milk.  Its not long before they are eating bones and chunks of meat.  Our desire is to find homes for our puppies where they will continue to be fed a raw home-made diet and kept vaccine free.

If we can be of any help and answer questions please feel free to email and we will be glad to discuss raw feeding with you
